A highlight of Brighton Food Festival is the International Chef Exchange dinner. This year it took place at L’Eglise Restaurant in Hove. This is one of our favourite restaurants run by Jean-Christophe Martin – it’s fair to say the French love their mushrooms, so we were delighted to be supplying him.
We delivered 3kg of oyster mushrooms, and a Kitchen Garden to show diners how their mushrooms grow – (we also intended to use it as a display kit at Hove Lawns Market) Guest chefs Jean Louis Gelin of La Meuniere and Yves Rivoiron of Cafe des Federations went about creating a fantastic French 5 course meal for their guests – by all accounts the soiree was fantastique!
We went to collect the demo kit on Saturday morning but to our surprise there were no mushrooms on it – we didn’t know what could possibly have happened!
Subsequently this incriminating photo has emerged…
According to an unnamed source (with a camera!) the chefs successfully served 67 covers, but were 3 short, so in a moment of inspiration / rashness the Kitchen Garden was sacrificed – Oh la la!
All was forgiven when we met the legendary chefs the next day – they’ve taken our Kitchen Gardens back to Lyon to grow their own!
